CDC – National Center for Health Statistics – Health United States Website

While working as a Web Developer / Designer for the CDC / National Center for Health Statistics / Office of Information Services (OIS) at the headquarters in Hyattsville, MD I created this “CDC – National Center for Health Statistics – Health United States Website” that is an annual report on the health status of the country, submitted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the President and the Congress of the United States.

Task

I was tasked with creating a website version of the annual “Health, United States” report to the Congress and President of the United States that is normally in PDF format. In order to achieve this I created a “microsite” within the CDC NCHS website using custom UI / UX layout, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery that was fully responsive and section 508 compliant which showcased the annual PDF report and explained what the report is and how to use the website version of it. In order to make the health data presented to be more interactive and to be more easily searchable by the user I further integrated the report data into using the innovative “CSV to Interactive Datatable Tool” that I envisioned, created, and engineered for the CDC NCHS in the same way that I had done for the various other data products and publications offered by the CDC NCHS which for the “Health, United States” version was called “Data Finder” and implemented it into production. This received positive feedback from the NCHS Director as well as the head of the NCHS Office of Information Services (OIS) and the “Data Finder” tool that I created for it is currently still being used in production live on the NCHS website.
