POLITICO – Map of the Blogosphere

This was a joint project I created together with political cartoonist Matt Weurker for POLITICO using advanced techniques and applying a google maps type of navigation functionality including zoom and using arrow keys along with integrating links to the various URLs that Mr. VandeHei wanted to be included in the “Blogosphere”.

Task

This project was created from a request by my boss at Politico at the time Jim VandeHei who was the co-founder. He specifically requested something that would be a different way to view and browse to all of the different political based website blogs that he would regularly visit each morning. Something that would be more appealing and engaging than simply a list of website URLs and names. So Matt Weurker and I brainstormed and came up with the idea of having him create a handdrawn “Map of the Blogosphere” that would illustrate the different political leanings of where each of the various types of political blog websites fell into. I then scanned and digitized what Matt created by hand and programmed and animated it in Adobe Flash.
